Regatta HQ: The park shelter at DuBay Park

Launch area: Trailer launching, no extra charges

Sailing Area:
The sailing area will be about 1 mile east of the launch area. There is about a 1/2 mile sail from the launch ramp to the open lake. In light air, to accommodate time for lunch, etc. a tow might be desired. If a competitor needs a tow, signal the safety, spectator, or RC boat by lowering sails.

The lake depth varies between 12 and 32 feet. There is a small sand bar about 36" deep towards the east area of the lake. The race committee will attempt to set the race course avoiding this area. The lake bottom is sand or mud.

Lake DuBay is an excellent I-20 scow sailing lake. It is big enough to set a 1 mile windward leg, but small enough the chop never becomes an issue in allowable sailing conditions. Heavy air sailing on Lake DuBay is a real treat.

The varying shoreline makes for shifty but sometimes predictable conditions, so spending some time on the water before the first race of the day is always recommended.

The Portage County Park on Lake DuBay is at the heart of the regatta. Camp sites are available by reservation as well as first come first serve. During the summer and prior to Labor Day, the campground is generally filled to capacity, but by mid September there are generally plenty of camp sites available. The park can accommodate tents, RV's, etc. and some of the sites have electric hookup. Link to the Portage County DuBay Park website.

Camp sites at the Portage County Park are $12.00 per night with an extra $4.00 per night if you utilize a site with electricity.
Firewood is available for $5.00/rick.

Lake View Log Cabins are located about 1.8 miles across the lake from regatta headquarters. It takes about 12 minutes to drive from the cabins to the regatta HQ. These cabins are equipped with heat and air conditioning and are reasonably nice. In addition to the cabins, there is a small motel on site. There is a fire pit and other accommodations that make the Lake View Log Cabins a great place to stay. Check out their WEBSITE for rate and reservation information. Back to top

Regatta HQ: The newly refurbished park shelter at the DuBay Park has a wood stove, indoor and outdoor picnic tables, and is a perfect location to socialize and enjoy a meal during a regatta. It is a short walk (5 minutes) from the launch area and has a sandy playground for the kids, ample parking, and is centered in the camping area.

Launch Area: There is a single dock with a ramp on either side to launch from. The park should not be too busy after labor day, so dry sailing during lunch shouldn't be a problem. The bay around the launch ramp is protected from the weather but does see some power boat traffic. Mooring is an option and the safety boats and RC boat can act as a taxi if needed.
