If you read the history about lake DuBay, you saw names like John Baptiste DuBay, George Mead, and Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company. These people and companies are historic figures but it is the Wisconsin River and the harvest of timber that caused the need for these improvements. As a result of the timber industry and utilization of the Wisconsin River, in the late 1800's and still today the Wisconsin River is the "hardest working river in the United States". With 21 specific reservoirs and 25 working hydroelectric plants it's a well deserved title. In celebrating the history of the rugged timber industry, river men, and the impact on river developments, the theme for the Saturday evening dinner and social will be a lumberjack theme. In the spirit of the lumber camps of yore, dinner Saturday evening will include several types of sausages, different types of potato salads, and beans. There will be a competition for the best dressed lumberjack. After dinner there will be a campfire by regatta headquarters and we're going to encourage gathering around and telling I-20 Nationals"folk stories". Bring your favorite flannel, work boots, suspenders, or corduroy pants, plan on kicking back and enjoying a relaxing evening sipping some suds and telling some tales. Regatta Sponsored in part by a grant from the Stevens Point Convention and Visitors Bureau |
