T'was different air - light air - that met the Butterfly fleet for the July 7th race. That meant some close racing for the 8, yes, 8 Buterfly boats on the water. Calen Terry demonstrated go fast ability taking two bullets with Ed Peck and Joe Terry in a tie for 2nd. Ed broke the tie with a win in the last race.
The sailors returned to a course regularly sailed by Lake DuBay sailors up until the late 90's, but not since, the Gold Cup course. A triangle leg followed by a windward-leeward kept the racing exciting and gave opportunity to move around in the fleet. With the oscilating and diminishing winds, Race 1 was a W-1, Race 2 was a G, and race 3 was shortened to one single winward leg as the wind shut off and the boats struggled to finish.
Once again, with a thread of rain the weather held out, and sailors had a great time.
