2012

Why Race?
Racing allows all sailors to hone their skills and become better sailors. While there is a competitive aspect that can be very exciting, club racing on DuBay is fun, social, and is the best way to learn to make your boat do and go where you want. Have no reservations, Join us!

Racing
Lake DuBay introduced a one-design Butterfly and Lightning fleet in 2009. Club racing also consists of a handicapped fleet using the Portsmouth rating system. The boats generally racing are scows of all types, day sailors, and daggerboard boats. This system allows anyone to participate in club racing and to be competitive.

Events
Racing takes place on Tuesday evenings (Portsmouth), Wednesday evenings (One-Design) and Saturdays (Portsmouth) as listed on the club calendar.

Tuesday and Wednesday evening races will be short races, generally lasting around 20 to 30 minutes each. Three races are generally sailed.

Sunday races will be a bit longer in length. This allows the cruising boats, spinnaker equipped boats, and catamarans to "stretch their legs" a bit. Two or three races will generally be sailed with races lasting around 45 minutes each.

Race day fees are $5.00 for club members, $10.00 for non-members.

Race courses are windward-leeward with the start line either at the leeward end or in the middle of the course.

Special invitation from the Long Lake Yacht Club:

Below is LLYC’s 2012 schedule. LLYC has a lot of dates open for Butterfly, MC, and M16 sailing and has 3 dates that are one day open class 3 race regattas. Anyone from Lake DuBay Sailing is welcome to join LLYC for any of the scheduled dates as our guest. If anyone is interested in becoming a member of LLYC the cost is $40 per year. Our primary goal is just to get as many boats sailing together as possible.

We are looking forward to seeing you guys at the June 16th butterfly event.

Thanks,

Rob Jossart
LLYC Commodore

Season Scoring:
Modified US sailing long series high point method.
In order to qualify for a top 3 race season ranking, a sailor must complete at least 50% of the races in the series ranked.
Sailors will accumulate points based on a high score method. For example, 1st place in a 10 boat fleet earns 10 points
Sailors performing committee boat duties will have their worst finish dropped for each time they perform RC duties for a particular series; however, no scores will be dropped below 50% of the total races in the series. For example, 6 race series, sailor races 5 races, performs RC duties 1 time, drops 1 worst score.
End of season points will be an average of all points in that series. Ties are broken using the standard method in the RRS.
